Welcome to the official site of “Bashkimi” dance
group. Through this website you will have the opportunity
to learn more regarding the group’s activities and also
their initiatives and dedication in preserving the Albanian
culture in America.
Albanian folk dances usually feature themes of honor, loyalty
and bravery without leaving out those dances dedicated to
love and festivities, such as weddings. These dances contain
many emotions, which are expressed through the moves of the
dancers. Albania has a rich folklore and every region has
a characteristic dance.
With this in mind, "Bashkimi" dance group has performed
folk dances from many of these regions. In the midst of the
many dances that the group has in its repertoire, there is
one dance that holds a special place. The dance is called
" Mother Albania- You have Kosova and Chameria",
where the dancers, representing the south and the north through
their costumes, dance and celebrate because they all have
one mother, mother Albania.
The Albanian folk culture is very ancient, very rich and priceless
to be forgotten. The folk dances are a very important component
of this culture and for this reason "Bashkimi" dance
group, through the interpretation of these dances, attempts
to somehow aid in the preservation of this culture.
